Kim Chun-chu(602A. D.--661A. D.) was the 29th king of Silla, and also one of the renowned diplomats, the strategists who were active in the 7th century in Northeast Asia. He held important position in the history of Tang and Silla and even in the Northeast Asia. This paper reviews his major activities in his life to discover the relations between Tang and Silla, and carries on the dialectical inspection to some details.Kim Chun-chu was the most important diplomat in Silla before he became the king of Silla at that time. This period was the initial stage when he was a diplomat in Silla who was in charge of the diplomacy to Tang, and his diplomatic activities got both success and failure. He once went to Goguryeo to get the help of army but with insufficient preparation, which narrowly caused serious damage to Silla. He was also detained in Wa and constructed peaceful external environment for Silla. His diplomatic activities to Tang won significant success, and had introduced Tang's advanced politics and the etiquette into Silla. He made Emperor Taizong to make the pledge of dispatching troops to attack Paekche under the situation which Tang had been defeated by Goguryeo, which brought to-Silla the hope of making alliance with Tang.Kim Chun-chu facilitated the alliance between Tang and Silla after he had ascended the throne of Silla. He also made important contributions for politics, military cooperation and economy, cultural exchange with Tang, and promoted the relation between Tang and Silla, and sped up the contests between Tang-Na alliance and Goguryeo-Paekche-Wa. However Kim Chun-chu's diplomacy which was on intimate terms with Tang had also relative deficiency. In this stage Tang-Na alliance grasped opportunities to perish Paekche and Goguryeo under the turbulent international situation and Caused the fundamental changes for Northeast Asia's political pattern. However, the crisis of annihilation of the alliance emerged at the same time.661A. D. Kim Chun-chu died and his temple name was respected as Taizong by the later generations, while the name caused a conflict with the Emperor Taizong of Tang who died in 649. Because of the deficient historical data, this event had left many questions behind. This event demonstrated the incomparably important status of Kim Chun-chu, and reflected also conflicts and amities between Tang and Silla after the annihilation of the alliance of Tang-Na alliance. It can be seen from the major activities of his life that Kim Chun-chu occupied important status in the history of the relations between Tang and Silla, and he is also a star in the international relations history of Northeast Asia at that time.
