An Analysis And Investigation Of "New Start College English Intensive Reading"

English teaching materials is an important part of the implementing the English, it plays an important role in accomplishing the teaching content and achieving the teaching objectives. As a major component in the implementation of English course. English teaching materials can not be ignored, for students from PE, fine art, and music department because they are the minority of the college students and they are very poor in English,their English course books are seldom evaluated.The aim of this evaluating the《new start college English》intensive course is to examine whether the course meets the requirement of the students in Baotou teacher's college and whether the course meets the《Higher education English teaching basic requirements》(For Trial Implementation).The thesis consists four chapters,in the first chapter, background, the significance and the method are covered.The second chapter introduces literature review, including the definition of course book ,evaluation of the course book, the significance of evaluating course book ,the classification and functions of the course book,the relevant researches on evaluation of English teaching materials, the theoretic basis for compiling the course book and lastly put forward the criteria of evaluation based on the summary historical researches on teaching materials evaluation in general. The third chapter is the main part of this thesis .firstly it introduces the investigation research design and implement. secondly the author analyzes and evaluates the course book from the internal and external angle. The internal evaluation includes evaluation of the language knowledge and evaluation of the language skills .The external evaluation is mainly analysis of the adaptability, to find out whether《new start college English》meets the students'needs by questionnaire and spss13.0According to the analysis and evaluation in previous chapters, Conclusion of the two research questions is presented in the last chapter. conclusion 1:The course book meets the《Higher education English teaching basic requirements》and meets the students needs from the department of PE,fine art and music in Baotou teachers' college. Both merits and shortcomings are pointing out and give the suggestions and advices for the editor and the user on how to improve the textbook.
