Immigration Policy of the United States is an ever charming topic, which the Presidents have paid much attention to in the past decades. Due to the economic crisis in 2008 and the broken U.S. Immigration system, the reform became imminent. When Obama came into office, he promised to work with Congress to get a comprehensive reform bill that included a path to permanent residency for the country’s 11 million undocumented immigrants. So he has been making the effort to achieve his aim since 2008. Unexpectedly, his proposal was strongly boycotted by the Republicans, native Americans and African Americans. However, Obama still insists his ideas on the illegal immigration reform through executive policy decisions despite of its failure to get legislation passed in the Congress. Looking back the process of Obama’s illegal immigration reform in the past six years, his each major move is met with opposition and criticism. Thus, this thesis is intended to give a profound and comprehensive analysis of the combined reasons behind Obama’s immigration policy reform. The author will explore the corresponding reason from the respective of the United States, the Democratic party’s politics and Obama’s personal ambition. Through the analysis, it draws a conclusion that there are three reasons for Obama insisting on illegal immigration reform as follows: first, the reform would alleviate many problems of the United States; second, the reform is in accord with the interests of the Democrats and the Hispanics; third, the illegal immigration reform is in accord with Obama’s personal ambition. Therefore, it figures out that Obama persists in carrying out illegal immigration reform under the affect of these three reasons. |
