Zhu Shunshui was a very important legendary figure between China and Japan. In his early years, he had a talent of governing and benefitting people. Because of the lax discipline and political corruption in the Ming Dynasty court, he had been asked to come out to be an official many times, but he refused. After the Ming Dynasty perished, he rushed about between Annan,Zhoushan, and Japan to carry out anti-Qing activities. When restoring the Ming Dynasty was hopeless, he stayed in Japan, as Lu Zhonglian did. In the Qin Dynasty, Lu Zhonglian was not appreciated by the Emperor. Although Zhu Shunshui was unknown in China and understood very little, he has had a profound influence on the modern times of Japan and made the great contribution to the Sino-Japanese cultural exchange. He dedicated "Fuming doctrine" for the mission, took the responsibility of passing the true Confucian to Japan. He asked for military assistance to Japan from the short-term management to the long-term business, and eventually reposed the restoration of China in the Japanese people. The facts had also proven that his efforts did bring the unexpected turn to Japan. His "hatred of barbarians" mentality, coupling with praise to Japan, has made Japanese gain the self-confidence, thus not only causing them liberated from the "barbarians", and posed as arrogantly by the "Chinese", an equal with China. He governed the country and spread the ethical culture to reverse the situation, thus realizing his own political ideals. A series of painstaking efforts could not help thinking that since modern times of Japan"the emperor series principle","nationalism"and"the practical principle"had his elements. His "hatred of barbarians" mentality and his outspoken cultural communication not only acted as a bridge of the cultural dissemination between China and Japan and as the temperate role of a friendly envoy, but also would give the human a complex mood, compared with the action after the Meiji Restoration. If we recalled Zhun Shunshui's function between China and Japan from the perspective of the modern East Asian history, he was indeed a complex character who went round with difficulty, the subjective motive was not associated with the objective effect, but they seemed to have deeply connection. In the modern East Asia history, Zhu Shunshui was one of the most ambitious designer and predictor.
