With the rapid development of economic globalization, there is growing market demand on high-qualified professional translators. Accordingly, how to improve current translation teaching and explore a more effective teaching model that can cultivate learners'translation competence to meet the requirement of the society and translation industry becomes a major issue of translation teaching studies. The appearance of corpus and its application as an aided tool into language teaching shed some light on translation instruction. A lot of scholars aboard and at home have found that corpus has an edge in terms of promoting translation teaching. As a type of corpus, parallel corpus obtains sound value of reference, comparison, contextualization and computational techniques owing to its characteristic of containing a large database of authentic source texts and target texts, thus having huge potential for improving translation teaching. According to this, the thesis proposes that parallel corpora can be a good tool to promote translation instruction and attempts to build a concrete parallel corpus-based translation teaching model. The thesis is a descriptive study which analyzes and describes the translation competence that professional translators are required to obtain in modern times. It points out that the current translation teaching model is less sensible to the social need, for it functions little on the development of learners'translation competence. The parallel corpus-based translation teaching model, on the contrary, can provide rich teaching resources, heuristic interactive learning environment and sound technological platform which are beneficial for the cultivation of competent translators. The author makes an empirical study to explore the feasibility and practicability of bringing parallel corpora into translation teaching, and tentatively creates a learner-centered and translation competence-oriented method of parallel corpus-based translation instruction which involves a detailed curriculum design. The curriculum consists of teaching objectives, teaching materials, teaching structures, teachers'training, the implementation and the assessment of the course. It is believed that parallel corpus-based translation teaching will not only promote the integration of modern science and technology and translation teaching, perfect the current translation teaching model and develop high-qualified professional translators, but also give important enlightenment to translation teaching studies as well as the improvement of translation teaching.
