The society of late Ming Dynasty became diverse. Because of the political uncertainty, the value of achieving self actualization through imperial examination was getting impractical during this period. Along with the business developing, the society was shifting towards to be consumption oriented. After the material requirements having been met, people were inevitably also seeking for a spiritual escape. Under such circumstances, the intellectuals populated in Jiangnan have pushed the arts of ancient stringed instrument Guqin, the essence of music of Chinese intellectual class, onto a new historical step.There are 4 chapters in this article to discuss the Guqin in Jiangnan of late Ming Dynasty.Chapter 1. The material and spiritual basis of Guqin in Jiangnan of late Ming Dynasty. The development of Jiangnan society would be discussed from aspects of material basis and cultural levels.Chapter 2. The Guqin of late Ming Dynasty. The epoch-making literature Xi Shan Guideline on Qin Music would be discussed. This article has described the realization of the core thinking of Guqin.Chapter 3. The activities of Guqin musicians, and the development of different schools of Gugin in Jiangnan.Chapter 4. The Guqin musicians in the transition from Ming to Qin Dynasty. To focus their historical and cultural roles.Conclusion. The Jiangnan society of late Ming Dynasty has cultivated the artistic development of Guqin. The Guqin musicians in the transition from Ming to Qin Dynasty have played important role in the continuation of Guqin in Chinese history.
