A Traditional Confucian Scholar In Temporal Society-A Research On Fan Yanqiao In The Republic Period

In this thesis, Fan Yanqiao is selected as the object of research. Fan Yanqiao is neither an intellectual writing for the public nor a common scholar treating knowledge as commodity. He is different from modern professional writers, such as Ba Jin, Lao She,etc. Fan Yanqiao has obvious characteristic of Chinese traditional scholar, but at the same time, he is a traditional scholar closely connected with modern temporal society. In this thesis, Fan Yanqiao's characteristic is summarized as"a traditional Confucian scholar in temporal society". This characteristic of Fan Yanqiao can be seen not only in his life but also in his work. Besides, the characteristic is reflected in his perspectives toward novels and his works. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter is Wandering Between Tradition And Reality, focusing on the life, literary and cultural activity of Fan Yanqiao. The second chapter is Research Of Novels Wandering Between Tradition and Modernity, focusing on his perspectives towards novels and the history of novels. The third chapter is A Singer Wandering In Modern Temporal Society, focusing on analyzing Fan Yanqiao's creation of novels.
