Research On The New Construction Of The Northeast China In Zhangxueliang's Period

After Zhang Xueliang put powered in Northeast China in 1928, he brought forward the ideas of constructing new Northeast China in order to "bring up the practical talents and establish new Northeast, so as to promote the national modernization and eliminate the ambition of the countries nearby". The Northeast China was constructed for three years until the "9·18" incident broke out in 1931.This paper analyzed the historical background of the new construct of Northeast China in Zhang Xueliang's period. In 1920s, Chinese people was sinked into a kind of down and hardship life. The Japanese Imperialism carried out the policy of occupation the Northeast China by force. Sino-Japanese ethnic conflicts were rapidly intensified. Meanwhile, Sino-Soviet conflicts were also intensified on the Chinese eastern railway issues and the other fields. As the frequent civil wars and economic aggression of Imperialism, the finance of Northeast was into plight, and the education was very backward. People left in difficult livelihood and the society was in chaos. Zhang Xueliang faced of this grave situation, when he initially charged of military power of Northeast China. Therefore, he determined to make every effort to save the Northeast, and began to implement the overall New Construction of Northeast China.This paper summarized and concluded the new construction of Northeast China from the perspectives of political, economic, cultural and social construction in Zhang Xueliang's period. The main contents during this period were to maintain national unity and stop warfare as the core political construction, to safeguard sovereignty and re-energize industry development as the key economic construction, to advocate education to rejuvenate the country and inspire the national spirit as the unique characteristics of culture construction, to improve the livehood of the people and rehabilitating as the purpose of social construction. Among them, economic construction was paid more attention.This paper analyzed the characteristics and historical impacts of the New Construction of Northeast China based on the summary of the overview of Northeast China's construction. The construction of Northeast China in this period was integrated Zhang Xueliang's personal feelings, with the characteristics of long-term strategic and transient practice, and also combined of all-round constructive and key construction projects. New construction of Northeast China, run through a strong spirit of patriotism all along, made a series of important achievements, promoted national economic development, and initially established industrial base in Northeast China. These series of reform measures were responsive to community development, and in line with the aspirations of the people of Northeast, with a positive historical role. However, it still had some historical limitations.
