It is a common view in the circle of foreign languages that culture education should be introduced into English teaching. The purpose of English teaching is not only to instruct students' linguistic knowledge and skills, but also to foster their ability of culture awareness and cross-culture communication. Most English teachers in compulsory education have realized that culture education plays an important and necessary role in the course of English teaching. In practice, they consciously put language and culture teaching together to instruct students, and in this way can the ability of language of students be improved to some extent.But at the process of the real English teaching in compulsory education, the cultural knowledge that teachers impart is focused on the English culture in the textbooks, which touches upon Chinese culture next to nothing. Finally students learn how to express the meaning of Anglo-American culture; however, they poorly understand how to convey the connotation of Chinese culture. So students often feel they don't how to express their own ideas in English, the intercultural communication proves to be low efficiency and meaningless.With seven-year experience of English teaching and my tutor's inspiration, I present a proposal that cultural comparison education should be emphasized on English teaching in compulsory education. We should put our eyes on the Chinese culture as well as English culture though culture education becomes more and more important in the course of English teaching. We are suppose to combine English culture and Chinese culture and find out generality and individuality between them in order to make students understand and master English and inherit and carry forward our profound Chinese culture.Firstly, through the analysis of English textbooks in compulsory education, I find that culture education, especially Chinese culture education shares a low proportion in the whole content; By way of questionnaires and interviews with teachers and students, I dig out that most English teachers have inadequate attention to cultural comparison education. What's more, some are short of awareness of it thoroughly. Both of them demonstrate the deficiency of cultural comparison education in compulsory education. Secondly, I analyze why cultural comparison education is deficient in English teaching and what influence the deficiency of cultural comparison education gives students in learning English. Finally, I give some constructive comments and suggestions on how to promote the development of cultural comparison education.
