Mind mapping is the most representative thinking visualization tool.Since its emergence,educators at home and abroad have begun to pay attention to and try to apply it to English teaching.In recent years,it has been widely introduced into English reading teaching.The research shows that mind mapping has many positive effects on English reading teaching,such as helping learners to establish the three schema of structures,the study finds that in junior high school English reading teaching,teachers ’ cognitive attitude towards mind mapping is generally not high;teachers use mind mapping less frequently;poor use of these three aspects.With the promulgation of the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition),in the part of teaching tips and teaching suggestions of the curriculum standards,the advantages of applying mind maps to English reading discourse teaching are once again involved,and it is clearly suggested that mind maps should be integrated into English reading teaching as an auxiliary tool.However,there are some factors that lead to the poor application of mind mapping in practice.Based on this,this study investigated 66 teachers and 375 students in five middle schools in H city,aiming to answer the following three research questions:1.Under the background of compulsory curriculum reform,what is the application of mind mapping in junior high school English reading teaching?2.Under the background of compulsory curriculum reform,what are the problems when mind mapping is applied to English reading teaching in junior high school?3.In view of the above problems in the application of mind mapping,what are the influencing factors of the above problems?In terms of research methods,the author mainly uses the questionnaire survey method to answer the research question one;the classroom observation method is mainly used to answer the research question two.In addition,the author also creatively adds the text analysis method to answer the research question two.As for the third research question,the author uses semi-structured teacher interview and student interview to answer.The author believes that teaching is not limited to teachers,but is composed of teaching and learning.Therefore,in the research subject,the author chose both teachers and students.At the same time,it creatively runs through the dual perspective investigation of teachers and students throughout the whole investigation and research process.After four months of researching,based on the above analysis and discussion of the application status,existing problems and influencing factors of mind mapping,in the following separate chapters,the author puts forward in detail the teaching optimization suggestions in three aspects : strengthening training,providing a legal mind map application path,and optimizing the group cooperation task assignment and evaluation mechanism,which provides the application path of mind map for teachers and students.It is hoped to ensure the better implementation of the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition).
