This article is for the purpose of collection, analysis and research on the Internet public opinions of the argument between simplified Chinese characters and traditional Chinese characters. The development of the Internet was so rapid that people could express their opinions and views easier than ever. The Internet public opinions emerged and had a huge influence on the society, because of its characteristics such as spreading quickly, multi-dimensional information, the way of interaction, etc. In recent years the argument between simplified Chinese characters and traditional Chinese characters drew attention among academician and populace via traditional media and the internet. In this paper, we collected and sorted out data of the argument, analyzed the focus of it, and proposed the corresponding measures to deals with the Internet public opinions at last.There are six chapters in this paper. The chapter one is an introduction, which contains the background and the significance of the research, and the essential concepts and terms mentioned in the paper. The methods to compile and analyze the information of the Internet public opinions were introduced, too. In chapter two, the history of the argument after 1949 was listed and analyzed. This could be a foundation for the analysis in the latter part of the paper. In chapter three, the information source of the Internet public opinions was inspected and selected. Then the files as the source of information were classified and reorganized. In chapter four,.the existing condition of the argument was described and analyzed; hence several viewpoints about the argument were concluded. In chapter five, the influence of the Internet public opinions were presented. And active measures were proposed. The Chapter six is the conclusion of the paper.Two facts were clarified in the paper. (1) There are more than two sides in the argument between simplified Chinese characters and traditional Chinese characters. In fact, many ideas opposing each other exist. (2) The simplified(jian) and the traditional (fan) have a complicated relation, so the two terms had been misused, intentionally or unintentionally.In this paper, the viewpoints of the argument in history were reviewed. It provided basic knowledge and information which enables the readers to have the quite comprehensive understanding about this question. Further more, the results of the research could be a reference and basic material for linguistics and departments concerned. With regard to the argument itself, we should take an easy attitude. The problem can be discussed in academic field, while all facts must be taken into account when any decision will be made.
