Elementary school students'Mental Quality refers to comprehensive representation of mental quality, which takes physica and learnt knowlege as core, formed by the result and force from inborn and acquired,and formed through the interaction between individual and social environment, and have closely-related to the development of primary students while having great influence on it.The study procedures are as following:from theory analysis, tool development, investigation and statistics. Based on previous literature and questionnaires, the present study revised Liu and Guo's (2001) Mental Quality Questionnaire for Elementary School Students, and provides some empirical evidences concerning the development of mental quality. The basic findings of the present study are:1. Elementary school students'mental quality is a multi-component structure. It mainly includes three dimensions-cognition, personality, and adaptation. The cognition dimension consists of three factors:intelligence, metacognitive plan and metacognitive monitoring; the personality dimension consists of ambition, creativity, self-confidence, and volition; the adaptation dimension is constituted by physiological adaptation, social adaptation, learning adaptation, life adaptation, emotional adaptation and frustrating environmental adaptation.2. The new Questionnaire is comprised of three sub-questionnaires:cognition, personality, and adaption. Both of its validity and reliability are good.3. Elementary school students'mental quality is at a medium level (M=3.5962) as measured by Mental Quality questionnaire, but the dimensions are not equivalent:the score of personality is the highest, adaptation is the lowest. 4. There is significant gender difference of elementary students'mental quality. Female students'scores are much higher than male students in terms of meta-cognitive plan, frustrating environmental adaptation, social adaptation, learning adaptation and adaptation.5. There are significant differences among students with academic achievement. Students with higher academic achievement score higher on Mental Quality questionnaire than students with lower achievement.6. There exist significant differences among students from different grades of study-grade three students have the highest scores in the dimensions of cognition and adaptation.
