With the establishment of China higher teacher-education in the educational reform at late Qing Dynasty, and the publicity of school music and aesthetic education, the piano, a musical instrument from abroad, entered the institutes of higher learning and has been occupying a significant place. Starting with the foundation of Art & Physical Education of Shandong Teachers' College, the almost 60-year-long piano education of Shandong higher teacher-training is developing through four stages: initial stage, chaotic period, recovery period and fast development period. The arrangement of piano-teaching curriculum is changing from the emphasis of "teacher-training" to the deviation from "teacher-training", and back again to "teacher-training". These changes, the miniatures of China higher teacher-training reform, are closely connected with it. At the early 21th century, our higher teacher-education is stepping into a new historical period. As the national authentication of teaching profession changes from "direction orientation" to "open type", the students majoring in piano education are now presented with more professional options than before when they finish their school. The existence of "teacher-training" of piano education in teacher-training is challenged once more. In the future reform, does the piano education focus on "teacher-training"? In order to come to the right conclusion, we have no choice but to survey the development of piano teaching in a historical perspective and sum up the regional features of its development so that we can find a new piano teaching pattern to adapt to the society,By scanning the development of piano teaching in the historical view, this thesis describes concrete materials including teaching concepts changes, teaching reforms, and teaching staffs since the foundation of Shandong piano-teaching through researching, collecting and investigating. Based on the writer's 10-year teaching experiences, the paper probes the nature of piano teaching in combination with the study of piano teaching concepts history in some well-known universities. At last, it comes to the personal conclusion of piano-teaching existence with the focus of "teacher-training", and puts forward some practical suggestions of reforming.
