Qianjia School In The Eyes Of Modern Scholars

History can't get rid of personal subjective emotion, as it is written by historians, which makes it possible that the same objective in reality may take on different images in the process of depiction. This paper aims to overview the establishment of Qianjia School's image in the early period of 20th century, and to uncover the multiplicity of historiology thoughts in this period.As a part of traditional culture, Qianjia School, has inextricable links with Shiliao School, so naturally it can't escape the eagle eye of scholars. There are critics and eulogists. Regardlss of their roles as critics or eulogists, they all depict Qianjia School's image of this period. To sum up, there are three kinds of image as following:The first image is "science". Liang Qichao says, "The academy of Qing's scholars purely applies induction and the spirit of science." Hu Shi says, " In China's old academy, nothing but textology has the spirit of science ." and Fu Sinian says "The academy of Qing has a sense of science, and entirely applies scientific method." On the empirical standpoint, they all think that the methods of Qianjia School's Textology are scientific and view it as prototype of modern science. The first part of this paper is to overview their establishment of Qianjia School's image.The second is "bibliography". In modern times, a number of scholars focus on its method and achievement in trimming ancient books when they comment Qianjia School. As Gu Jiegang ever says, " The scholars in Qing times labored over collation and textual researches on historical materials, which makes our work more efficient on the basis of their work." And Jian Bozan also mentions that Qianjia scholarship has been viewed a precious Chinese cultural inheritance. In their eyes, Qianjia School is purely bibliography. Both Gu Jiegang, as a scholar of Historical Data School and Jian Bozan, one of Historical Concept School, hold this view. The second part of this paper is to overview their comments.The last one is "sociology". Compared with the mentioned scholars, Zhang Taiyan and Liu Shipei of Quintessence school, Hou Wailu of Shiguan School and Qian Mu of Tradition School, speak high of Qianjia School as they are devoted to searching for Jingxue of Han dynasty, advocate the academic method of noting instead of creating and show academic characters of calling a spade a spade. They view it as sociology. The third part of this paper is to overview their comments on Qianjia School.Those comments of modern scholars on Qianjia School, help us to get a better understanding of Qianjia School and modern academy. The different images reflected different epistemology of these scholars. The conclusion summarizes the whole thesis, points out the different historical concept of such Schools as Tradition School, New History School, Shiliao School, and Shiguan School, thus gives my own evaluation of Qianjia School...
