The fast beat of the society sometimes make us forget about our roots. We accept foreign customs and don't care about our local traditions. Talking about my own experience, I've always appreciated Andean music, but I didn't know much about it. Although this genre was always around us during Ecuadorian national holidays or other events in town, I never was curious to learn how to play any Andean instrument. After I came our from my country I saw that people that were not South American knew more about Andean music than I do. I always felt embarrassed when sometimes I mixed the names of the Andes panflutes, or when I call kena to a zampona; so I went to my friends, who used to play Andean music back in South America, and ask them about all those unclear subjects; with their help this document could finished successfully. One of the purposes of this paper is promoting the Andean music, giving the reader a guide about the instruments of the Andes highlands. All with a magical tool called sampler.I heard the word sampler from my uncle when I was 11; he used to be a DJ and was always updated with the technology. In 1990 he bought a new DJ mixer, he was excited because he said his new toy had "sampler"; I had no clue of what that was; he started to press some bottoms and sounds of sirens, gun shots, and robotic voices came out from the mixer. He even can record his voice with a mic and later, pressing another bottom he could replay it. From this experience I saw sampler as a recorder machine, without giving it too much importance. Some time later when I started playing keyboards I realized that sampling has been around much earlier than my uncle's mixer and that it was a main characteristic of modern electronic instruments. And when the computer got popular I started to listen about "virtual instruments" made with "sampler softwares" that also became available. With this magical tools musicians can record sounds of their instruments and create a whole imitation that instrument inside the sampler software; sound designers can gather their favorite sound effects and trigger them from these sampler machines. A lot can be done. In these modern times we can promote and rescue lost traditions with the help of technology. We can learn about ancient musical instruments with a computer on our laps. This document is a tribute to the mellow and relaxing sounds of Andean Music.
