The majority of Chinese adults study foreign language under the atmosphere of native language. This kind of foreign language learning process concerns not only the learning of language knowledge, but also foreign language thinking. The strong native language structure and native language thinking in the brain of foreign language learners will have great effect on foreign language learning. In the process of adults' foreign language reading comprehension, the mutual cross-role between native language-thinking structure and foreign language-thinking structure, which exists in adults' brain, may influence the speed and efficiency of foreign language reading.Based on theoretical analysis and experimental investigation, the paper discusses the relationship between language and thinking in the process of adults' foreign language reading. The paper is divided into seven chapters. The first chapter illustrates the aim, process and significance of this research.Chapter Two summarizes previous theory relating to language learning and reading comprehension, and comments on the content of those theory and point out the defects of each theory.Chapter Three elaborates the related research on speech understanding, aiming at explaining the micro-process of foreign language reading comprehension and proving thinking process participated by nervous system, existing in the process of reading comprehension.Chapter Four explains the definition of language and thinking, and discusses the relationship between those two in a macro way. The relationship between language and thinking has been the focal point of linguists' argument for a long time. Famous linguists have many controversies on this question, but they also have many consensus.Chapter Five compares the differences between English language-thinking and Chinese language-thinking, and analysis the objective existence of language-thinking difference in two different culture background.Chapter Six, though experiment research, demonstrates that adults are aware of the difference between English thinking and Chinese thinking. Chinese thinking have effect on foreign language reading comprehension, and it can influence the result of foreign language reading comprehension. The difference between English thinking and Chinese thinking influences adults' reading speed and difficulty perception.Chapter Seven, on the basis of above theoretical analysis and experimental research, introduces the theory of Bilingual Double Structure and discusses the relationship between language and thinking under the Bilingual Double Structure, and draws a model of the relationship.Chapter Eight is conclusion of the research. On the basis of theoretical analysis and experimental research, this paper obtains conclusions as follows:1) Chinese adults study foreign language under the atmosphere of native language. In the process of learning, there are always language- thinking Bilingual Double Structures of two languages in learners' brains, that are Native Language-Thinking Structure and Foreign Language-Thinking Structure. These two structures relate with each other, influence each other and interact with each other. It is the important psychological mechanism of foreign language learning.2) As with the gradually plentitude and stability of learners' Foreign Language Cognition-Knowledge structure and with the continuously improvement of leaning ability, adults gradually form foreign language thinking pattern. At this time, in the relationship between language and thinking, learners' foreign language reading comprehension has substantive alternation, that is, more foreign language thinking, less native language thinking, and vice versa. However, two languages' thinking are always in a state of coexistence, they always interact with each other.
