More than 2000 years ago, philosophers in China and Greek had recognized that music benefits physical and mental health of human. In recent years, from Mozart's effects to potential development, from Clinical analgesic to music therapy, the unique value of music proved its delicate and magical efficacy again and again. However, music therapy just puts a small number of people with mental handicap and mental illness as its main objects and tasks, which can't meet the need which more individual wants to develop mental health. With the social development and transformation, the pressures on college students are more and more. In the face of psychological reality, we can make full use of the advantage of music's aesthetic appreciation to accommodate their mental health and promote their psychological development; this has an important theoretical value and practical significance for nurturing high-quality talents.In this study, according to mental health and therapy theories, combining different psychological functions of music, literature analysis, questionnaire survey, expert consultation and education are used to determine the principles and standards of music selection, and then established a music aesthetic works library. On the basis of the traits of music aesthetics activity of undergraduates and the facts of psychological counseling groups, referenced the music therapy procedures, we designed the program of music aesthetic activities based on improving the mental quality and promoting psychological problems intervention. Through a three-month's experiments of music appreciation education intervention to improve mental health and mental quality for freshman students, we get the following conclusions:(1) In this study, the designed training model of aesthetic appreciation based on activities of music appreciation is feasible; The designed program of aesthetic appreciation activities of music is operational.(2) In this study, the works library of aesthetic appreciation activities of music and the program of aesthetic appreciation activities of music are effective to raise the level of mental health and improve psychological qualities for college students.(3) In this study, the designed aesthetic appreciation activities of music can improve mental health of undergraduates, and significant changes have occurred in the following five factors: Compulsion symptoms, interpersonal relation, depression, anxiety and horror.(4) In this study, the designed aesthetic appreciation activities of music can develop the mental quality of undergraduates, a significant effect emerge especially in the characteristics of reflection ,creativity,motivation, emotion and adaptation.
