Research On "Degree Adverb + Noun" Structure From Different Angles

Since the 1990s, the"degree adverb + noun"structure is more and more widely used, which can be reflected in novels, newspapers, and conversations in daily life. Since the 1960s, many scholars have conducted deep research on this structure, the result of which is fruitful yet still insufficient. Focusing on the research on this structure's internal organization on the basis of the former research, this paper includes six chapters as follows:Chapter 1 focuses on summarizing predecessors'research, finding their achievements and insufficiency, analyzing predecessors'research of the degree adverb in the structure, finding the ignorance of the degree adverb in the structure and the insufficiency of none's semantic analyzation. On the basis of these, we put forth our thread.Chapter 2 conducts the research on the degree adverb in the structure by analyzing corpus. We find that there are 21 degree adverbs which can decorate noun. On the basis of this, we analyze the characters of the structure. The comparison of degree adverb is also included.Chapter 3 analyzes the meaning of noun, the combination basis of degree adverb and noun. The basis is that their meanings both have fuzziness. Due to noun's prototype, there are differences between the center member and others. Thus, noun can be decorated by different degree adverbs.Chapter 4 analyzes the semantic orientation of nouns, and conducts the research on the schema of the structure. We find that this structure conforms to"Center-Periphery Schema".Chapter 5, using the schema, analyzes the method to determine degree adverbs, the reason of noun's tending to be decorated by strong degree adverbs.In the end, based on our research, this paper concludes that the combination of degree adverb and noun is reasonable. There are syntax and semantic basis, and some rules inside the structure. But"degree adverb + noun"is still a developing structure, which should be accepted objectively.
