Research On The Seven Sages Of The Bamboo Grove

Because of the significant role that The Seven Sages play in Wei-Jin culture, related researches on them are constantly carried out in the academic circles,but still there are many spaces to be further explored.First of all,there are various voices about the origin of the name "The Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove" and about the truth of their trips to the bamboo grove.But due to the complicacy of historic records and the inefficiency to tell right from wrong,many arguments are open to deliberation. Second,there are far more comprehensive researches,which focus on the commonalities of the Seven Sages,than relativity ones.Owing to differences in ages, hobbies,political stands,social experiences,upbringing backgrounds,natural gifts, temperaments and family kinships,the relationship between the Seven Sages complicatedly varied,and this split them into small groups.Besides,because of their diverse gifts,their literary works obviously differed in the esthetic characteristics.Based on wide reading,thorough investigation and strict verification,this paper tries to bring up a peculiar point of view about the name "The Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove" and also manages to prove the specific time and sequence of the trips that the Seven Sages paid to the bamboo grove.Meanwhile,beginning with typical images in their literary works from the view of psychology,this paper makes an approach to the relationship of the Seven Sages and the dissimilarities of their literary works.This paper consists of three chapters.Chapter 1 traces back to the years that the name "The Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove" was first used in the books,so as to infer the evolutionary process of the name.Also,related information of important people around the Seven Sages are fully explored,because based on the information,the specific time when seven of them gathered in the bamboo grove can be fully verified.Chapter 2 deliberates on the relationship of the Seven Sages from the psychological view by comparing about their natural gifts,family kinships,social statuses,personal experiences,upbringing backgrounds,hobbies in chatting,music, health care,food and clothing as well as temperaments.
