The Brief Analysis Of Characters In "Xunzi"

As to be a book written by pre-Qin philosophers,"Xunzi"has a profound influence on Chinese cultural development. It is mainly about prose, including a lot of political and philosophical articles, but it also contains some particular characters.The preamble of this thesis reveals the current research in the academic field, next I demonstrate the need for this study on different types of characters in"Xunzi". After this, I discuss the character in detail, and this thesis also related to the author's writing techniques on figures at the latter part of the thesis.The main part of this thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter deals with several points: this thesis is from theview of Xunzi'theory, not Xunzi, and"Xunzi"contains some particular images.There are different views on the specific author of every articles . That is, some may come from the supplements written by Xunzi's students, but the vast majority was written by Xunzi. In this thesis, I do not research into the specific problem of the author but I gave a general description from the point of"Xunzi". Besides, are there characters in"Xunzi"? You can also get the answer in this chapter. I learnt from the opinion on the characters in Classical Prose of Tanjia'jian to describe the images in"Xunzi".I studied the ways of describing the figures in"Xunzi". The main methods are as follows: the mold techniques of character in"Xunzi"are through direct commentary primarily. Besides, the author of"Xunzi"also quotes the dialogues among character's as well as the leading character opinion, and sometimes he narrates the significant historical event about character in order to prominent the characters indirectly. What's more, there's a method which is very similar with that of description on character in"Shiji". The meaning is as follows, the material on character appears in the different chapters, and they mix mutually to form the subject together at last. In this chapter, I also simply analyze the reason to the weak artistry on characters.The characters include Confucius, and Xunzi in this thesis, according to chapter Two and chapter Three, which are the major parts of this thesis.Ihe image of Confucius is given a detailed analysis. There is much material in"Xunzi"connected with Confucius who is the most important characters in the thesis. For Confucius, I compared the image of Confucius with that in"The Analects of Confucius". For Xunzi, I demonstrated from the view of gentleman and the relationship with the Qi culture, and so on.The other historical figures are dissertated in the fourth chapter, including Yao, Shun, Zhougong, Qihuan'gong, and Guanzhong. The first two figures are very similar, so I just gave them a general description compared to the latter figures which are relatively vivid.
