In every day life, shyness is defined as an uneasy feeling in the interpersonal situations. Proper and specific-to-situation shyness is a normal reaction, but over-shyness and generalized shyness maybe influence one's learn, behaviors, every day life and the healthy. In the western, shyness had research by many psychologists, and made fresh achievements. But in china, specialists and scholars start to research shyness only in recent years. Of course, we have yielded some results, but it is not enough. In Beijing Normal University, Xiegang and Liuxiangpin′s studies show that the shy experience of Chinese undergraduates are more widespread and more serious compared to other nations'undergraduates, nowadays it has already seriously obstructed undergraduates′development of the social ability. So it is necessary to study the Chinese undergraduates′shyness deeply. This study is trying to know more about shyness by questionnaire research. We used Undergraduate Shyness Scale, Chinese version of EMBU, questionnaire on coping style and Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Checklist to investigated 449 Undergraduates. According to the research,we draw the fo1lowing conclusions:First, there exists sex difference between male undergraduates'parenting style and female undergraduates'parenting style. Among father and mother's rearing style punishment and strictness, rejection, over involvement, over protection towards male students is significantly higher than female students, but emotional warmth is significantly lower than female students. Among coping style rationalization towards male students is significantly higher than female students, but help-seeking and fantasy is significantly lower than female students. Among father's rearing style rejection, over involvement, over protection towards University freshmen is significantly higher than sophomores, and the same as mother's rearing style over involvement and protection. Among life event factors interpersonal relationship towards University freshmen is significantly lower than sophomores. Second, shyness is negatively correlated to father and mother's rearing style as emotional warmness and understanding, but it is positively correlated to father and mother's rearing style as punishment and strictness, rejection, over involvement and protection. Father and mother's rearing style as emotional warmness and understanding towards shy undergraduates is significantly lower than no-shy undergraduates, but father and mother's rearing style as punishment and strictness, over involvement and protection towards shy undergraduates is significantly higher than no-shy undergraduates. Shyness is negatively correlated to coping style as problem-solving, help-seeking, but it is positively correlated to others'factors among coping style. Shyness is also positively correlated to life event and its'factors.Third, coping style as help-seeking, fantasy, self-blame are moderators between shyness and life event.
