The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of college students' irrational beliefs and to find the inter relationship among college students' irrational beliefs, social support and self-identity in the context of Chinese. This study initially established the frame of college students' irrational beliefs scale by literature analysis and interview, then established the preliminary scale by confirmatory factor analysis, finally investigate the characteristics of college students' irrational beliefs and find the inter relationship among college students' irrational beliefs, social support and self-identity by use of relation analysis and regression analysis. This study tried to provide theoretical and practical support on correcting the unhealthy cogitation of college students, optimizing their social support and promoting their healthy development of self-identity. The preliminary scale of college students' irrational beliefs includes 34 items, including of 6 dimensions: self-oriented absolutely perfect demand, other-oriented absolutely perfect demand, self-oriented over-general cogitation, other-oriented over-general cogitation, self-oriented subjectively derogative evaluation, other-oriented subjectively derogative evaluation. The reliability and validity of the scale are tested acceptable.In the survey, 669 college students were investigated, using College Students' Irrational Beliefs Scale, Social Support Review Scale (SSRS) and Identity Status Inventory, the main findings are as follows:1. Self-oriented absolutely perfect demand and other-oriented absolutely perfect demand are the most important irrational beliefs of current college students.2. The irrational beliefs of male college students are in significantly higher level than that of female college students on self-oriented absolutely perfect demand and other-oriented subjectively derogative evaluation.3. The irrational beliefs of sophomores are in significantly the highest level of all on self-oriented absolutely perfect demand, other-oriented absolutely perfect demand, other-oriented subjectively derogative evaluation and the total. 4. College students' irrational beliefs have significantly negative correlation with their social support and self-identity, college students' social support has significantly positive correlation with their self-identity.5. College students' social support partially mediated the relation of their irrational beliefs and self-identity.
