Different cultures contact,communicate and collide more frequently. Cultural conflict has become one important problem on the globalization course. One important reason of cultural conflict and crisis is short of understanding to each other culture differences and intercultural communication thought. Under this background, the intercultural communication study of Pearl S. Buck who had gain Nobel Prize and made creativeness contribution to Chinese and Western cultural exchange in 20th has more theory value and practical or immediate significance. The paper studied the research achievements of China-foreign Academic circles, revealed the deep reasons of her successful intercultural communication from scientific principle and put forward innovative viewpoint.The chapter one selects Pearl S. Buck who had made a brilliant contribution to Chinese culture spreading and Chinese and Western cultural exchange as object of study. The thesis studies the reasons, strategies and the influence of her taking up intercultural communication. The author researches these problems under the guide of intercultural communication theory in order to provide some useful lessons to intercultural communication.The chapter two introduces some intercultural communication theories. The third chapter is about the reason of Pearl S. Buck taking up intercultural communication. It is closely related with the age of colonialism and different culture no admitting. The age provided her intercultural life, double education of China and west and condition of intercultural communication. But the age also brought her worries of different culture conflict. She was a marginal people without culture identity because she accepted neither by Chinese culture nor American culture. If east and west culture can communicate, respect each other, treat each other equally and multi-coexist, she would not be fed up with different culture conflict and worry about her culture identity. Thus she selected intercultural communication of connecting the China and west as her whole life occupation.The forth chapter introduces her ways of intercultural communication. The fifth chapter is about the intercultural communication strategy of her prize-winning works The House on the Earth. The author considers her intercultural communication strategy as following.1.She insisted that the content was a king during her writing process. She wrote truly the foreign country history custom. She chose the most suitable material of reflecting foreign country characteristic, such as Chinese family, selecting people and farmer loving earth. The reader can see the common character from the individuality and the world from the nation, so the works had world significance.2.Her writing method was influenced by both Chinese traditional novel in chapters especially All men are brothers and west naturalism especially Dickens. She well combined the both together in writing. 3. She observed the world from the Chinese's angle not from the Occidental's visual angle like other west author and wrote the Chinese special custom. Her works more correctly reflected the Chinese life and thought.4.Pearl S. Buck selected the familiar words of Western to translate the words with Chinese cultural characteristic and created the various cultural context in her English works in order to the west readers better understanding the Chinese mode of thinking, language characteristic, various culture phenomenon and reducing culture losing and misunderstanding in communication.5.She simplified and left out the complicated culture that she didn't knew well in culture spreading.The author indicated the effect of Pearl's intercultural communication with comparative means in chapter six. She broken Chinese conventional words and changed opposite Chinese stereotype since 19th centuries in west. The west readers have recognized the Chinese fact and found the same character between Chinese and the Occidental.
