Shanxi's novels have made an indelible contribution to Chinese literature. From the school of "Shanyaodan" in 1940s, represented by Zhao Shuli, to the school of "Jin" in 1980s represented by Cheng Yi, Li Rui, Ke Yunlu and so on, and then to the group of " post-Jin" with Zhang Ping as the representative, these writer could not be said as the great man in Chinese literature, but they did form a distinctive style in Shanxi. Li Rui was a special representative of them. In 1970s, Li Rui , as a knowlegded youth, began his writing, and published his first collected stories "The Loss of Longevity Lock." In 1980s, he published his series novel "Thick Soil", which has a nationwide impact. Both of the books were describing the lives in Luliang mountain. The former focused on the people of Luliang mountain who pursued for the new life, in which the immature creation is obvious; while the latter was dedicated to reveal the existing state of life. The negative colorless life with a heavy heart, and the state of mind of ignorance in the novel made readers tremble. In the novels "Trees Without Wind," and "No Cloud" and "The Story of Silver City", Li Rui continued to reveal the tragic and plight of life during the historical process. Until his series novels of "Tools", the author had been trying to continue his concern about people and life. This article mainly talked about Li Rui's concern and expression to plight of life from three aspects through the novel's core theme - the plight of the life to the point.First of all, Li Rui conveyed his concern to human condition, which was difficult to survive, by using his own unique characters and literary style in the novel. Each person in Li Rui' novel, either men or women; either the captain, who has the power or an ideal revolutionary, or the ordinary people at the bottom of life, was struggling in the plight of life. Only the suffering and the plight of the life could people's thinking and questioning be triggered.Secondly, history was the living space of figure, whose existence could not be ignored. Since ancient times, people' lives were under the control of the history, which could rise or depress people's emotion. Facing history, Li Rui did not judge it but concerned about why all beings would come to the tragedy beyond redemption. The reason was not only connected with backward history but also with irrational destruction of the revolution. Another reason was the spiritual desolation of the farmers in the process of modernization.Third, no matter it was the plight of the history or the existence, people were the "main body." Li Rui, who was serious and conscientious, was bound to be concerned about the language after concerning and thinking about the "people". He would develop language to the "body" and used "the initiative of the language " to establish "the main body of the Chinese language. And also descriptive methods would be explored further.
