Professor Martha Cheung’s famous book An Anthology of Chinese Discourse on Translation Volume One From Earliest Times to the Buddhist Project characterized by numerous complicated sentences. How to translate them is a difficulty encountered by the author during the course of translationIn English translation, the translation of English complicated sentences has always been the difficulty and focus. Its rich content and complicated structure often lead to problems in understanding and difficulties in expression, thus constituting difficulties in translation. Many scholars have made many achievements on the topic of "English complicated sentences".They have given a general definition of English complicated sentences and put forward some methods to translate it,but it is worth noting that there is no simple equation between sentence complexity and translational difficulty. Therefore,it is of great significance to explain why certain English complicated sentences are hard to translate, analyze their respective difficulties and further explore translation strategies. This thesis mainly discusses the difficulties and translation strategies of translating difficult complicated sentences into Chinese.During the process of translation, the author adopted the five translation methods proposed by Liu M.,and specifically analyzed the use of the five translation methods. The translation methods can convey the basic information of the work and its writing style. However,it is not enough to adopt the above translation strategies alone.Appropriate transformation must be adopted after analyzing the language differences between English and Chinese and the sentence difficulties in the source texts.
