The Research On Qingdao's Philanthropy Of The National Government (1945-1949)

Being one of the traditional virtues,philanthropy has a long history in China,and runs from generations to generations.Since modern times,the idea of traditional philanthropy in China has grown modernized.The philanthropy developed very well in Qingdao during the National Government(1945-1949).Firstly,it is an inevitable result of traditional charity idea and practice in so many years.It was supposed to happen also because of natural and man-made disasters during the National Government.Next,it was a combination of traditional eastern charity ideas with western in the second half of the 19th century.And last but not least,Qingdao's economic development in modern times provided it with a good material basis.The main organizations and institutions at that time included:first,Qingdao Shili House;Second, other temporary charity institutions,such as Qingdao Dongling Charity Committee and so on.They were playing a supporting role in the cause.Nongovernmental charity groups went through ups and downs and were restarted from 1945 to 1949,showing different characteristics from governmental charity organizations.Though the main duty was to preach,their activities brought western charity ideas to China.With the increase in number and the expansion in function,Qingdao modern philanthropy became more and more helpful.On one hand,they held charity activities to help people in poverty or in disaster;on the other hand,its service scope expanded to cultural education,medical health,small loan and so on.The improvement of law system made Qingdao's charity cause more standard and more outstanding.Charity organizations became diversed.It took on a new look,breaking the area limit,and raised money in many different ways.Confronted with so many social troubles during the National Government,charity groups tried their best to help and solve these problems,and their efforts made a lot differencese in society,for example,stabilized the political situation,promoted civilization and humanitarianism and helped a lot to form a good social atmosphere.All in all,Qingdao's philanthropy developed very well during the National Government (1945-1949).It exerts a very important enlightening significance for modern socity to the establishment of harmonious society and charity development.
