According to the sound principles and note production of the instrument, the Yangqin belongs to point instrument class. Compared with wind instruments and bowed instruments, the resonance period brought by the production, sustainance, and fading of sound is shorter. More importantly, the length and change of sustaination seldom relies on the player's control. In this regard, is it unnecessary to control it? The answer is NO! The performance of music, especially linear music, is strictly dedicated to value, strength, continuity, etc. Only precise control can achieve exquisite music performance. Based on the author's observation, plenty of Yangqin players fail to understand and express the notes well (mainly referring to those single notes that fail in applying Lunyin skill to sustain the value). Their habitual point striking results in too many short value notes and too few long ones. To confront this problem, especially long value note control, this thesis studies the aspect of playing methods and the reasonable cognition and sensitive expression of music, in hopes that the academic field would pay more attention to proper playing methods and musical performance.
