| The TV play market of China flourishes along with the progress of film and television and audience's requirement of TV play increase. The production of TV play continuously increase, at the same time, the subjects of TV plays turn to ancient legends of our country. The White Snake, which is adapted from the ancient legend by CCTV, arouses the strong echoes, and it causes a widespread discussion about the adaptation of ancient legends. In this paper, it will take The White Snake as an example to discussion the adaptation of ancient legends.This paper uses compare investigate to compare the two TV plays first, then the plots of the two TV plays to different written versions of The White Snake, to find out the original works of the two TV plays. It uses Statistics to analysis the questionnaire to study the effects of the two TV plays. Using science of communication, it studies the effect of the two TV plays on the reflux of the legend.By the analysis and the comparison it conclusions that the two TV plays have no original works for the legend has many different versions and the TV plays adapted from more than one version of The White Snake. It conclusions from the questionnaire that The New Legend of White Snake strongly pushes The White Snake's transmission, and the new video media has a strong effect on the reflux of the legend. Although the adaptation of ancient legends is helpful to their transmission in modern society, there are many problems especially in the adaptation in fact. So, the film and TV workers must be careful with the adaptation of the ancient legends. The TV plays adapted from ancient legends must respect the spirit style, respect the audience's comprehension of the legends, respect the character images of the legends, they must avoid injuries in character images with ancient persons speaking modern languages, wearing fashion clothes or doing modern things.It is a trend that adapt ancient legends to shooting ancient costume TV plays, although there are still many problems in the recent TV plays adapted from ancient legends. But the scholars of film and TV theoretical study and folk literature study have not give enough attention to these problems. This paper take the two TV plays adapted from The White Snake as examples, studies the basic problems in film and TV adaptation, hoping that the problems discussed in this paper can attract the scholars'attention to perfect related theory study and construct to standardize the adaptation of ancient folk literatures and improve the quality of TV plays adapting from ancient folk literatures, and finally make the excellent ancient folk literatures spreading with the help of the video media and keep their original style without changing. |
