Preliminary Research On The Reasons Why Wang Yucheng Became The Pioneer Of The Literature Innovation Movement

In terms of literature theory or practice, Wang Yucheng (954～1001) was the pioneer of the literature innovation movement in the Northern Song Dynasty. In the past 30 years, academics have done in-depth researches about Wang Yucheng's life, thought, literature creation theory and characteristics, and have achieved substantial findings. But academics have not researched on the reasons why he became the pioneer of the literature innovation movement in the Northern Song Dynasty .The objective reasons why Wang Yucheng became the pioneer of literature innovation movement in the Northern Song Dynasty include: the literature development called for innovation; the change of literature style guided by emperors; the promotion of highly respecting literature policy; the renaissance of Confucianism as ideological support; the development of culture and education as intellectual support; the stimulus of incessant foreign aggression. The fundamental reason was that a series of policies in order to strengthen the centralization of ruler's power was favorable to literature prosperity and literature innovation.The subjective reasons why Wang Yucheng became the pioneer of literary innovation movement in the Northern Song Dynasty include: rich experience of his life, especially of his exiled life in Shangzhou as a turning point of his literature style; firm Confucianism belief; firm spirit of innovation; lofty spirit of literature; correct attitude and means of reviving ancient literature; high level of literature creation both in theory and in practice.
