With mountains and rivers linked with, sources of cultures related to, Vietnam and China are frindly nighbors in Asia. There exits similarities as well as obvioius differences in languages and cultures between the two countries. Both of the two languages belong to tone languages. Basing on pictograph, Chinese combines shape, pronunciation and sound into one, and forms unique square characters. Being Latinate language, Vietnam is similar to Chinese in that every word contains one syllable, which, in turn, consists of three elements: initial consonant+vowel+tone. The Vietnamese people also divide the six tones in their language into level tone and oblique tone. The unique Vietnamese language embodies Vietnamese poetry with distinctive artistic features. Making use of features of the Vietnamese language, the Vietnamese people combine Chinese temperament patterns and Vietnamese ballads and folk songs into the unique poetic style of the Vietnamese nation: six-eight style and double seven-six-eight style. The two poetic styles resemble Chinese metrical poem and also bear the features of Vietnamese poems. According to the author's comprehension of her native Vietnamese literature and knowledge of classical Chinese literature, this thesis attemps to carry on a comparative study of Vietnamse poems of the six-eight style and double seven-six-eight style and Chinese poetry, so as to disclose the relation between Vietnamese poems of six-eight style and double seven-six-eight style and Chinese poetry. This thesis is mainly composed of six parts:Part One: Introduction. It briefly introduces the present research situation of the Vietnamese poems of six-eight style and double seven-six-eight style and expounds the research object, significance and train of thought.Part Two: It expounds the formation of the six-eight style and double seven-six-eight style.Part Three: It analyzes the form and artistic features of six-eight style and the double senven-six-eight style.Part Four: It expounds the representative works of the Vietnamese poems of six-eight style and double seven-six-eight style adapted by the Vietnamese literati who made use of the themes of classical Chinese literature.Part Five: By comparing the level and oblique tones, rhythm, and rhyme pattern of the representative works of Chinese six-character verse, seven-character verse and eight-character verse, and that of Vietnamese poems of six-eight style and double seven-six-eight style, this part finds out the relation between the latter and the Han poems, and further expounds the situation of the translation of a certain number of Han poems into Vietnamese poem of six-eight style and double seven-six-eight style in Vietnam.Part Six: Conclusion.
