As the major frontier of teaching Chinese overseas, Confucius Institute undertakes the mission of teaching Chinese and promoting Chinese culture as well. For Chinese teaching is experiencing the process from the traditional approach of teaching at home to the new one, that is, teaching overseas, it cannot follow any suit. The thesis gives suggestions and assumptions to the mode of the "student-centered and demand-oriented" in Confucius Institute in South Korea by discussing Chinese teaching modes there with the reference to its Chinese teaching condition. The thesis is based on the analysis of the survery to students from Dongseo University and Chung Nam University with relevant theories of second language acquisition.First of all, there are problems coming out on facility distribution, education policy, educational subjects, educational method, textbooks and Chinese teacher with the establishment of Confucius Institute and development of various activities. On the other hand, the theoretic researches on Chinese language teaching overseas by Confucius Institute are still at the premature stage. Therefore, the thesis reorganizes and summarizes the previous accomplishments to prove the necessity and rationale of researches on teaching mode in Confucius Institute in South Korea.Secondly, the thesis elucidates the theoretic basis of the teaching mode in Confucius Institute in South Korea with the help of the ESP theory of supply and demand and "student-centered" teaching theory. Confucius Institute emphasizes the practical communicational function of Chinese and thus gives priority to cultivating communication abilities in Chinese teaching from the point of being student-centered, which tries to get informed of the students needs.Moreover, the thesis studies the reality of Chinese teaching in the Confucius Institute in South Korea from four variants: students, which includes age, mental state (motives, attitudes, personality, self-esteem and repression and learning style), teachers, curriculum and textbooks, based on the survey to students from Dongseo University and Chung Nam University in South Korea. The thesis uses the relevant theories of second language acquisition to analyze the results of the survey.At the end, the thesis argues for the feasibility of the "student -centered and demand-oriented" teaching mode in the Confucius Institute in South Korea, and brings up specific suggestions in four aspects: teaching contents, role of teacher ,teaching method and compiling of teaching materials .The thesis discusses the value and insufficiency of Chinese teaching mode of the Confucius Institute in South Korea. Its survey provides data for researchers to learn more about the reality of the Confucius Institute in South Korea. To some extent, the research helps to reveal the student needs in the Confucius Institute and improve Chinese teaching overseas, especially the Chinese teaching mode in the Confucius Institute in South Korea. Moreover, the thesis can also work as a reference for volunteer teachers to prepare teaching materials and Confucius Institutes to compile textbooks.
