On The Metaphor Of The Terminology Of Chinese Traditional Medicine

Chinese traditional medicine(CTM) is the jewelry of oriental culture.Although translation, information database bulding ,semantic extansion and culture on terminology of CTM have already been well-developed,but metaphor hasn't been studied before on this area.Firstly, the thesis will give a vivid description on the structure of terminology of CTM(TCTM) from source, target and similarity in order to know the uniqueness of the metaphor. The target is divided into image of sickness which is directly referred to the outward characteristics and reasons and cures which is more abstract. Resouce includes almost everything that is divided into things which is concrete, heaven which refer weather phenomenon, earth which includes river, mountain and orientation, and society which refer the relations between people. The similarity lies between the resource and target, including physical similarity which is on the shape,colour and sound, similarity which is on the movement and change, function similarity which refers the effect ,and relation similarity which refers to the ways working on each other.Secondly, semantic characteristics are focused which include systematism, context depending, vagueness, partism and open to change. Systematism means there are structural relations between notions in the metaphor of TCTM. The understanding to the metaphor of TCTM highly depend on the external cognization context and internal context. Vagueness in the metaphor of TCTM can be explained from the circumstances of the found of CTM,linguistic and cognization.Open to change refers one resource is not the only choice for one target.partness exists in the semantic characteristics for just part of such characteristics transformed to the other end in the process of the mapping.At last, there are two main functions of the metaphor of TCTM: providing methods to express for relative notions in CTM and assisting subject to do cognization. Linguistically, It will be find out that metaphor can create reasonable and well structured form of words through analysis on three levels of character, word and expression, Cognizitionally,on the basis of the medical practice ,metaphor in TCTM have the capacity to help exploring the reason of sickness and the method to cure them.
