Vocabulary acquisition is an essential and important part of language acquisition. Conscious learning has been studied for a long time. Yet, subconscious acquisition has somewhat been ignored. In recent years ,subconscious acquisition are attracting more and more linguists'attention and becomes one of the most popular topic in modern linguistics. Many famous psychologists such as Freud and Charcot have done research on the subconscious field. And in 1970s, Krashen put forward the"Affective Filter Hypothesis"which provided support for subconscious acquisition from the linguistic perspective.Basing on the previous study, this paper focuses on the effects of subconsciousness in English vocabulary acquisition. The following hypotheses are to be testified: subconsciousness has great effects on English vocabulary acquisition and the combination use of subconsiousness and consciousness can accelerate English vocabulary acquisition. The experiments are done among 23 graduates of English majors from Harbin University of Science and Technology and 45 students from Huayu Technical and Vocational College of Shandong.Some subconscious factors are found out in the experiment by the author. The difference between high and low level language learners is compared and the relationship between consciousness and subconsciousness is studied. From the discussion of the results of the survey and vocabulary tests, it comes to the conclusions: subconscious factors have great influence on English vocabulary acquisition; many kinds of subconscious factors which effect English vocabulary acquisition are showed including motivation, anxiety, mood, self-confidence, time and so on; it is also proved that conscious factors and subconscious factor are closely related to each other. this paper mainly focus on the effects of affective factors on English vocabulary acquisition in hope that it would have enlightening on English vocabulary study and teaching.
