This paper talks about the origin and the devolop progress of the Chinese traditional graphic of good luck, its artistry and its applyment among the public, and the most impotant thing is its potential contribution on building our own language of Chinese design. The origin of the Chinese traditional graphic of good luck, was due to the low level of science and knowledge in the primitive society. Driven by curiousity and fear, the primitive people created many images of god such as fish, frog, bird, and snake...they believe these aninal could bring good luck to them, so these images became the earliest forms of the traditional graphic of good luck. And then, the Confucianists, the Taoism, and the Buddhism did their affections to the traditional graphic of good luck, as well. The traditional graphic of good luck also appeard in many big occasions. Though the progress of the traditional graphic of good luck is a long period, the meaning of it never changed, which is bringing good fortune. And that maybe the reason why the traditional graphic of good luck is always welcomed by people. The traditional graphic of good luck has a long glorious history, but the more impotant thing is that it is a huge potential library for Chinese moden design which started late about 20 years ago, and it is still under the rules of western design.
