However, Calvino is not just a novelist, but also a critic. In his editorial career, he left us with a number of critical articles. "Perchéleggere I classici" is the representative of that process. The book collected Calvino various periods of literary criticism, and it concentrated embodiment the aesthetic criticism orientation, intermittent standards, and its criticism of the practices of style. Of course, this Collection of Calvino's criticism does not fully included. Some literary criticism contained in the preamble or the order of the novels. For example, the preamble of "Italian Folktales" and the fate of The castle of CrossedDestinies: the order "The Written and Unwritten Word " .And Some other literature criticism beyond the scope of arts criticism, such as the film critic at that time . Except the "Perchéleggere I classici", there is another works was very import. that is the "Six Memos for the Next Millennium". This paper is for the Charles Eliot Norton lectures that Calvino planned to give it during the fall and winter at Harvard. The paper has five dimensions account of himself novel aesthetic concept. But Calvino had died before the day he given the lectures. Calvino asked a very grim question: a millennium would be pasted, in the pasted millennium the literature has been in a noble and serious status. However, the literature is facing an unprecedented challenge when the millennium will be passed: In the post-modern society, literature has lost the traditional position. The visual arts and popular culture have their advantage .Faced with this confusion, how should literature go? Whether she can maintain a lofty position in the next Millennium? Calvino tried to give us the answer in the speech. One begins now to see the method of a Calvino meditation. He looks; he describes; he has a scientist's respect for data. He wants us to see not only what he sees but what we may have missed by not looking with sufficient attention. At the beginning of the paper, I will analysis both of these books: the "Six Memos for the Next Millennium" and the "Perchéleggere I classici". The focus of the " Six Memos for the Next Millennium " has been on novel aesthetic criticism. The " Perchéleggere I classici " is on the specific literary criticism. Then, after that, the origins of the criticism should be straightened out. The second, the aesthetics of Calvino's novel analysis is necessary Calvino's aesthetic ideal different from the professional critics . So the novel aesthetic areas carding is very necessary. Thirdly, on the basis of the criticized practices sum Calvino's style up and summarized. Finally, meanwhile is the article's motivation and innovation lies on: The meaning of Calvino's criticism in the beginning of the new millenniumWe have entered the era said by Calvino for years. in this millennium looking back on the literary master the expectations and reflect the position literature is a very meaningful thing.
