The Analysis On Situation Semantics

Situation Semantics is a new semantic theory created by the well-known American logician Jon Barwise and John Perry in early 1980s, the representative works is the book named "Situations and attitudes" by the two co-publishing in 1983. The direct reason for producing SS is that the logic semantic theory of the past has so much shortage in processing of natural language meaning. This paper aim at the basic, the main characteristics of SS, from the basic elements, the impact on other theories and so on, with lots of angles to be more comprehensive perspective and be briefly reviewed, so as to make the basis of the work to some in-depth study.The article is divided into four parts, the first part of the article is the background of the SS's producing with more comprehensive in-depth study: First, dissatisfaction with the previous theory of natural language semantic, Jon Barwise and John Perry germinate an idea to create a new theory. About that, the paper to analyze from three aspects: truth conditional modal semantics, possible world semantics and the problem of psychological reality. Secondly, a new theory is not a figment of the imagination of one or two people out, it is always have many ideological origins, and the next part of the article has also made a brief introduction to Jon Barwise and John Perry created the ideological source of SS.
