An Investigation Into The Present Self-Sufficient Undertakings Of Buddhist Temples In Chongqing

The article investigates the Self-Sufficient Undertakings of Buddhist Temples and such ones in present Chongqing from the perspective of the Science of Religion and Modern Management, especially Modern Management of Religion. It pays a great deal attention to find out the problems and the ways to elevate the level of Buddhist temples in Chongqing engaging in such Undertakings.The article argues that, the Self-Sufficiency of Buddhist Temples is to earn for living themselves. That is to say, Buddhist temples have to earn resources according to engaging in some businesses of productivities or services. When earn for living, Buddhist temples must eye at the development, propagation and philanthropies.The Self-Sufficient Undertakings of Buddhist Temples are those businesses which Buddhist temples engage in to earn for living. Therefore, there must be the features of economics, of production and service, of Buddhist development and Buddhist cultures of such businesses.Nowadays, all Buddhist temples in Chongqing have engaged in some self-sufficient undertakings. Among such undertakings, Buddhist service and marketing of Buddhist things are the majority, which is almost hold by all temples. Besides these businesses, some temples have engaged in service of tourism, of vegetarian, of Buddhist tea, of hotel, of funeral and burial, farming, foundation, shopping, housing, a few investments and so on.However, most Buddhist temples in Chongqing can not afford them adequately. Why? Firstly, most Buddhist temples have not corresponding recognition. Secondly, the management of such undertakings is not perfect enough. Thirdly, the people resources are not sufficient. The forth, the corresponding Buddhist cultures are not enough. The fifth, the basic facilities are not adequate. And some temples are still facing the problems that being inside the scenic spot.To improve the self-sufficient undertakings, Chongqing's Buddhist temples should do as the followings. Firstly, they should reinforce the corresponding studies, researches and experience exchanges, so as to deep their recognitions. Secondly, the management should be improved and perfected. Thirdly, they should enhance the construction of people resources. The forth, the corresponding Buddhist cultures must be the main resources and the basic element of such undertakings. The fifth, the facilities of the Self-Sufficient Undertakings must be perfected. Moreover, those temples facing the problem of being in the scenic spot should solve such problem properly.
