The present thesis is a survey of Ruian dialect. The Ruian Country is one of the countries of Wenzhou municipality in the south of Zhejiang Province, which has a long history. Ruian dialect belongs to Oujiang part of Wu dialect, not only sharing the general characteristics of Wu dialects, but also owning lots of unique feature itself. This thesis takes the phonetics of middle age in Chengguan town of Ruian as the main described object, and adopts the modern scientific methods, tries to give a detailed and comprehensive describing of the phonetics of the Ruian dialect.This thesis has four chapters, which outline is following:Chapter One introduces the natural, geographical, historical conditions and an overview of previous studies of Ruian dialect briefly.Chapter Two analyses the phonological system of Ruian dialect. It describes its phonology, including the initial system, the final system, the tone system and the relationship between these three parts, etc.Chapter Three analyses the internal differences among the Ruian dialect. This includes the differences among the different pronunciations in different areas of the country, the differences among the yong and the old, and the literary reading and colloquial reading.Chapter Four deals with the corresponding relationship between the phonological system of the Ruian dialect and Guangyun phonological system.
