A Study On Students' Taxes And Labor In Early Tang Dynasty

The main purpose of this thesis is to study a phenomenon of students'exempting taxes and labor by law in Tang Dynasty.there is not any thesis or monogragh about this phenomenon up to the present.The former scholars studing students in Tang Dynasty mainly did their research from the perspectives of finance history and education history,while the students who need not assume taxes and labor were not been paid more attention.This thesis try to do a thorough study of it, on the basement of the former studies ,through a search and collation of law of students in the books of Tang Dynasty,with the discovery of Tiansheng Law which was collected in the library of Tianyige,in the city of Ningbo,Zhejiang Province .The main content of the thesis is exempting taxes and labor by law about students of different kinds in early Tang Dynasty,including students in Hongwen,Chongwen,Guozijian,districts and countries,as well as special skilles Mechanismes.and try to analysis why they have this priority?As a result of the priority during their students'times,they have formed a habit of owning the priority and want to continue it ,which may be influenced their job-hunting and career sorts after they went out of schools. At the end of this thesis,it dissertated concisely the variation of students'exempting taxes and labor by law in late Tang Dynasty.Students'priorities were been cut down after two-tax system put into practise. Meaningwhile,Titular Families have developed and expanded, they became a group of exempted labor by law.This group was the sequent of the development of Imperial-Examination institution.Most of students in early Tang Dynasty are descendants of officers,and students who came from high grade officers'families could obtained official positions according to their forefathers'grades. The situation have changed in middle and late Tang Dynasty,more and more officers through Imperial-Examination not family status .From exempted taxes and labor of students to exempted labor of Titular families by law ,this is a point of view on the variation of social grades in Tang Dynasty.
