A Historical Survey On The Memory Of Confucius's Birth Anniversary Of Nanjing National Government In 1934

During the time of 1930's, China was in internal and external troubles.On one hand the nation crisis was gradually grave under Japan's imperialist stepped-up offensive; On the other hand the Nanjing national government's internal ruling was very fragile. The Nanjing national government held the first time countrywide Confucius birthday commemorative activities in 1934 so as to draw support from Confucian and build up one kind of the new government belief and moral regulations of the nation after its foundation as well as to try to keep its control in politics ,economy and thought culture .The holy birthday memorial was magnificent and wide.The Nanjing national government had renewed the memorial ceremony tradition after many years of interruption.And what's more the service had initiated the beginning of the holy birthday souvenir held at the same time in sacred land Qu Fu City and capital Nanjing. Great reformations took place in contents and forms and had significant influence on that time and later. The contents of this paper is to elaborate the reasons, processes, impacts of the memorial birthday for Confucius performed by the Nanjing nantional government in 1934 with more detailed and primary analysis ,viewing the establishment of the Republic of China in 1912 to the 1930s as the background .The thesis is made up of three major parts:preface,body,conclusion. The contents of every part is as follows:Preface: One, the significance of the memorial service for Confucius. Two, reviewing the present researches on the event in the academic circles and pointing out the insufficiency and weakness of the exsiting researches ; Three, the key points of the paper.Body: (three chapters)The first chapter mainly discusses the changes of the memorial ceremony from1912to1934:the attitudes of Nanjing interim government ,the Northern Warlords government to traditional memorial service for Confucius; and the Nanjing national government's different attitudes from 1927 till 1934.The second chapter describes the cause and effect as well as process of the ceremony in detail ,pointing out the significant changes of the service contrary to the past.The third chapter remarks the concrete influences of the memorial service for Confucius.Conclusion: The concluding part summarizes the causes and functions of the birthday commemorations for Confucius ,as well as the the memorial service for Confucius carried out by the Nanjing national government in 1934.The paper aims at putting the 1934 birthday commemorations for Confucius in the Chinese modern history historical longvolume.Moreover,it discusses the relationship between this event and correlative incidents from the thought origin, history evolution, current political influence and so on ,carefully examining their mutual functions and effects from the national government interior and taking the history events reconstruction as the foundation with multi-stratification , multi-angles description of this event.
