The Spreading Of Journey To The West In The Western World

Every nation has its immortal masterpieces of art, which are going to enter the hearts of all mankind sooner or late. One of the Chinese famous classics, "Journey to the West", spread to the West from the beginning of 20th century. First, as the literary fragments, and later, translation reduction and adaptations appear, till the 70s and 80s of last century there have been translations of the full text by Anthony C.Yu and W.J.F.Jenner. Experienced a not long, but very brilliant course, it is widely welcomed by Western readers. In this phage, the studies of "Journey to the West" in the Western academic circles keep moving on. And it becomes an important research subject in academia. In this context, it is necessary to give a relatively detailed and comprehensive study on the spreading of "Journey to the West" in the West.In this paper, the text translation and dissemination of academic research of "Journey to the West" in the West are divided into two parts and therefore sorted out and research it. Text translation, first outlined the translation situation of "Journey to the West" in the Western world, comparatively study the differences in the Western countries and the Asian countries on "Journey to the West" translating and then try to explore the deep-seated reasons behind. Finally, to integrate the two existing full text "Journey to the West" English translation, and study translators' position to figure out different cultural backgrounds and how to create different translation; In Western academic research. Firstly, I will give a brief history of national study of "Journey to the West" as a reference frame for the Western study history on it. Then introduce the study status of "Journey to the West" by Overseas Chinese Scholars and Western Sinologists to give an overall care on the spreading and studying in the West of "Journey to the West".The spreading of "Journey to the West" in the West is a very important case in literature and cultural exchanges. In this paper, I hope to put forward the dissemination of history of "Journey to the West" in the West, to provide the basis for further research, and hope to provide one case studies to explore some rules of the Chinese classics' spreading in the West.
