Based on Eastern learning spreading to the West, scholars coming from different countries have studied Chinese Classics to some degree like a raging fire, although some of them have studied the original work of Shan Hai Ching. But it is rare to study on English version of it.A few foreign Sinologists have studied the original work of Shan Hai Ching, with a minority of them who have translated some parts of it,and only one has translated the whole book into the English version. Thus, the author holds the opinion that there still has large space to study on the English version of Shan Hai Ching,Guided by the functional equivalence theory, the author exerts qualitative analysis to study on two versions of Shain Hai Ching, seeking to find some factors we need to consider.Through the study on equivalence of lexemes, syntax and discourse, the author begins to analyze the two versions of it and draw a conclusion that in translating texts like this, lexemes, syntax and discourse of different semantic unit cannot be considered separately.Instead,it should be translated by combining the background of Chinese historical traditional culture and translating purposes.
