The Unification Of Truth And Method

The question about the relationship between truth and method is still bothering many philosophers after the publication of Truth and Method. Many philosophers think that Gadamer is totally against method. All of these arguments imply that the Philosophic Hermeneutic could not ignore totally the status and function of method in the process of establishing the theory of truth. We need to reappraise the ideas about the relation between truth and method in Gadamer's theory.First,we need to get to the bottom of the ideas of method in Gadamer's theory and have a full knowledge of the meaning and signification of the scientific methodology. Through criticism on the consciousness of Kant's aesthetics, the consciousness of traditional history and the instrumentalism of language, we know that what Gadamer argued against was the consciousness of scientific methodology reflected in the domain of Literae Humaniores. At last, I am going to try to conclude some characters of the consciousness of scientific methodology.Second, I am trying to analyze Gadamer's ideas of truth. He opened out the ideas of truth contained in the experiences of Hermeneutics expressing in the domain of Art, History and Language. Then, I am going to conclude some characters of truth bearing strong color of ontology.Third, I am going to introduce the controversies and some thoughts about the relationship between truth and method including the discussion of relativism. Some philosophers and their ideas about the relationship will be mentioned, from which we can have more deep understanding about the relationship.At last, I am trying to describe some characters about the consciousness of methodology in Philosophic Hermeneutic. Then, I am going to discuss the feasibility and possibility of the unification of truth and method.Although discussions about the relationship between truth and method are still continuing, the importance of Gadamer's theory can not be neglected. His contribution is to rebuild the real situation of human being and make the method return to its real foundation. From a new perspective, we can get a different method about how to understand our existing world.
