A Study On Strategies Of Independent Study With Focus On TV University English Teaching

In the 21^st century, "Lifelong education" has now been recognized by every country. In China, the Education Ministry had put forward to implement the distance education project, form the open education network and construct lifelong study system in st century>> early in December, 1983. In 1999, Education Ministry sanctioned Central Radio & TV University personnel training mode reform and open education pilot project study, hereafter referred to as TVU open education. It is one of the key items of the action plan of vitalizing education towards 21^st century. Student-centered independent study is the innate characteristic and core content of TVU open education. But at present, the students of TVU open education, especially at the basic level TV university show no optimistic situation. They relatively lack of independent study. This influenced the development of open education in TVU to a certain extent. This text combines individual practice, analyses the problems in the students' present independent study and their reasons, promotes some strategies to adopt the method of independent study in English teaching in TVU university.The reason shows mainly: independent study consciousness is faint; the independent learning ability is not enough and it is limited for time to study independently.According to the above problems and their reasons, and concerning the practical object, the text analyses and put forward the following measures: Change the students' traditional learning concept; To improve the students' independent study ability; teach the students to use the time properly.
