Social comparison is an essential part of life. Compared with the others make the individuals change direction to concern themselves with others comparison, and the results of this comparison will change the individuals comparative scale and comparative standards, and produce the new ego consciousness. To a certain extent, these determine the individual's self-concept, emotional state and future expectations, which have an impact on their mental health. The junior middle school students are in a "mature development" period. Because of their physiological and psychological drastic changes, concerned with their physical and mental health appears to be particularly important. The researches explore the impact factors of mental health problems of the junior middle school students more carefully in the characteristics of social comparison dimensions, which will contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the psychological and behavioral characteristics of the junior middle school students, and provide valuable references for the mental health education of the junior middle school students.Based on literature review and open questionnaire survey, the researches compile the social comparison features questionnaire of the junior middle school students, and explore their development features of social comparison. And through regression analysis and correlation analysis, the researches explore the relations between the social comparison characteristics and the mental health of the junior middle school students. The results show that:1 Self-questionnaire has good reliability and validity, as an assessment tool of social comparison characteristics of the junior middle school students is stable and reliable. The questionnaire is divided into five factors, respectively named as positive and uplifting, downward comparison, self-belittling, Calm reaction, comparison orientation.2 The development level of each factor of social comparison characteristics of the junior middle school students is imbalance. The factor of minimum mean is downward comparison, this shows that the junior middle school students in the social comparison, few compare with the classmates who are worse than them. The factor of maximum mean is positive and uplifting, this shows that the junior middle school students in the social comparison, in order to self-improvement, often compare with the classmates who are better than them.3 Each factor of social comparison characteristics of the junior middle school students exists the significant differences among grades. The factor of downward comparison exists significant differences between gender and significant interactions between gender and grades.4 Overall speaking, the mental health conditions of the junior middle school students are good. But four factors (obsessive-compulsive symptoms, anxiety, learning pressure, Emotional instability)exist mild problem.5 The score of the high symptom subjects on three factors(downward comparison, self-belittling, Calm reaction) are significantly higher than that of the low symptom subjects; The score of the high symptom subjects on"positive and uplifting"is significantly lower than that of the low symptom subjects; On"comparison orientation", there are no significant between the score of the high symptom subjects and that of the low symptom subjects 6 There are significant correlations between the characteristics of social comparison and the mental health. The factors of social comparison characteristics can significantly predict the mental health.
