China has a long history of civilization and profound culture, and the Chinese characters can be considered as the most representative components of this system, for the reason that they have reflected the wisdom and creativity of Chinese people."Chinese characters are the most complex form system in the pre-modern civilization of mankind and they've had a deep influence on the Chinese way of thinking."It can be concluded that Chinese characters are the Chinese language as well as Chinese traditional graphics, furthermore, they are notable characteristics of imagery thinking. In other words, the way of developing Chinese characters directly bred the way of designing in China.Rudolf Arnheim said real creative thinking is with the"image"in the development of human awareness campaign, moreover the thinking of Chinese people is obviously the'image'thinking. Methods to create Chinese characters are summarized as'six books'or'six justices'by posterity. According to the homology of creative thinking, we further understand the interaction of characters and 2D information visual communication.In this paper, the characteristics of imagery thinking from Chinese characters are under analysis in details which also has some connections with the Chinese design thinking. Imagery thinking and aesthetic consciousness are discussed which is contained in the Chinese characters. Chinese characters carry genes showing the capacity of summary and performance when Chinese people research the 2D image information. This paper is supposed to play a promoting role and supply a innovational prime power in the development of the national language design. The study of the relationship between Chinese characters and graphic design is of great importance because it can interpret the cultural gene along with our Chinese. We assure that this kind of gene is always a designing power in the depths of our hearts and minds and we will inherit and carry forward with such wisdom and strength. In conclusion, this paper tries to bring the creativity and innovation of the Chinese characters into the language of the contemporary graphic design which can thereby create a new kind of creativity. The charm of Chinese civilization will never declined in the field of visual communication design.
