| After the Anti-Japanese War broke out, Shanghai, the economic and cultural centre of China fell to the Japanese Army. Then, Japanese Army, in their attempt to maintain colonial rule in Shanghai, fetched up Dadao Government, Government Office and Shanghai Special Municipal Government respectively. This thesis makes a detailed study of the Shanghai Special Municipal Government from October, 1938 to October, 1940, during which Fu Xiaoan was the mayor. The thesis makes use of materials on Shanghai Special Municipal Government acquired from Shanghai Archives, and some old newspapers and magazines, to introduce the Shanghai Special Municipal Government.Founded in October 15, 1938, the Shanghai Special Municipal Government was a pupeet government under the control of Japanese Secret Service Consultant Agency. The thesis researched four sides of the government: the institution installation, be friends with Japan policy, keep the CPC and KMT's Movement of the Resistance against Japan and National Salvation, and the scramble for concessions. |
