Research Of Dramatis Props In Yuan ZaJu

The importance of the research of Yuan ZaJu cannot be emphasized too much in the research of Drama History of China all along. However, seldom special works or monographs focused on the dramatis props research in Yuan ZaJu. This paper focuses on the problem of dramatis props research in Yuan ZaJu and investigates the Yuan ZaJu using the novel point of view - dramatis props.Thoroughly collecting one hundred writings in "Selection of Yuan drama" and forty five writings in "Additional Selection in Yuan drama", this work classifies all the choosing dramatis props and investigates their inherent problems, such as their features and the resulted functions. In detail, several contents are illustrated in this paper as following:1. The structure effect and the art function of drama in Yuan ZaJu. Structurally, some dramatis props, linking the dramatic plot all along, perform a systematic function in Yuan ZaJu. Besides, some other dramatis props perform different function in different section of drama. Detailedly, some props make several key clews in a drama; some ones develop and drive the dramatic plots; some ones reverses the dramatic plots; and some dramatis props collect and resolve all the complex dramatic plots and complete the story in a reunion manner. Artistically, at the same time, some dramatis props strengthen the visualization of dramatis personae; some ones constructa poetic and drawing artistic conception; and the others make a dramatic comedy impression or legend affect.2. Dramatis props of the society and living of Yuan dynasty in the Yuan ZaJu. The dramatis props in Yuan ZaJu were rooted from the actual society and living of Yuan dynasty and could reappearance their living prototype. Contrariwise, the application of the dramatis props can imply the society and living of Yuan dynasty. As a result, this paper illustrates the dramatis props, such as the silver, the saddle and horse, or the spring clothes to donate one Confucian scholar, the divorcing letter, gift for marry, and amanuensis letter; at the same time, this work depicts their reflective society and living of Yuan dynasty.3. Analysis and judgment of the use of dramatis props in Yuan ZaJu. This section includes the following contents: the analysis on the rationality of dramatis prop in Yuan ZaJu, the analysis on the using technique of dramatis prop in the dramas wrote by HanOing Guan, ShiPu Wang, ZhiYuan Ma, Pu Bai and GuangZu Zheng, and the analysis on pattern preference of the use of dramatis props in Yuan ZaJu. Based on the above analyses, we can make a conclusion that some dramatists arrange the dramatis props using the previous patterns and make the same use of dramatis props; some ones make the drama irrational and unlikely by using impertinently props; but a few authors apply novel props to make the dramatic plot changeable and make dramatis personae vivid in their drama.
