A Study On The Relationship Between Subjective Well-being And Internet Addiction Tendency Of College Students

In this study, college students were studied by using designed questionnaires toinvestigate the situation of their subjective well-being (SWB), in order to enrich thetheory and measurement study of SWB. In the meantime, the study explored therelationship between SWB and the tendency of internet addiction, providing a newperspective of the prevention and treatment of college students' Internet addictiondisorder, so that it is of important guiding meaning and applied value on the currentcollege students' mental health education.The results showed that:1. The designed college students' SWB scale included both cognitive and affectivecomponents, divided into six dimensions, such as self and life satisfaction, positiveaffection, family satisfaction, love satisfaction, negative affection, social behavior. Thescale got good reliability and validity.2. College students' SWB is on an upper-middle level. Female college students' totalSWB is significantly higher than male college students'. The difference between only-child college students' total SWB and non-only-child college students' total SWB is notsignificant, but their self and life satisfaction having a significant difference, which is thatthe only-child college students' have got higher self and life satisfaction. Students fromurban areas and those from rural don't have significant difference in total SWB, buthaving significant difference in positive affection, self and life satisfaction. Students fromurban have higher positive affection and self and life satisfaction. Students of differentgrades have significant difference in total SWB. The highest one is gradeâ… , the lowestone is gradeâ…¢. Students of different majors don't have significant difference in totalSWB. But things are different in love satisfaction, negative affection, self and lifesatisfaction. Students of arts major have higher love satisfaction and lower negativeaffection. Arts and sports category students have highest self and the life satisfaction.There is significant different among students of different amounts of monthly cost ofliving in total SWB. Students having more than 800 RMB monthly cost of living gethighest total SWB.3. There is a significant negative correlation between college students' SWB and internet experience, tendency of internet addiction. The lower is SWB, the higher internetexperience and degree of tendency of internet addiction will be. There is a significantpositive correlation between the internet experience and tendency of internet addiction.Internet experience and negative affection, social behavior, family satisfaction of SWBhave significant prediction on college students' tendency of internet addiction.4. Structural equation modeling analysis shows: SWB directly influences on collegestudents' tendency of internet addiction. Meanwhile, SWB can also influence tendency ofinternet addiction through internet experience which is a mediator variable. The model isan accepted one.
