Using Perceived Social Support Scale, three subinventoriesof NEO-FFI(Neuroticism, Extraversion, and Conscientiousness),General Health Questionnaire-GHQ and self-made demographyquestionnaire, 1800 college students from 9 Hunan colleges anduniversities were inverstigated. It analyzed present mentalhealth conditions of Hunan college students, researched theregulating role of social support between personality and mentalhealth, and explored the regulating contribution rate of socialsupport in the effect of personality on mental health, so it canoffer valuable references for mental health education theoriesof colleges, and at the same time it can promote college studentsto correctly understand their personalities and social supportresources and make full use of them, furthermore promote thedevelopment of college students' mental health. Questionnaireinverstigation, correlation analysis, multi-regressionanalysis and hierarchical multiple regression were used in thestudy, and SPSS13.0, LISERAL8.3 and EXCEL software package wereused in data statistical processing. The results showed:(1)Significant positive correlation existed between the factors of GHQ-20 and NEO-N, while significant negativecorrelation between the factors of GHQ-20 and NEO-E, NEO-C andall factors of perceived social support; perceived socialsupport and its factors have significant negative correlationwith NEO-N, while significant positive correlation with NEO-Eand NEO-C.(2)Multiple regression analysis showed that perceivedsocial support and NEO-N, NEO-E and NEO-C have significantpredications on GHQ.(3)Hierarchical multiple regression analysis showedsignificant interaction effects between perceived socialsupport and personality exist in mental health. The hypothesisthat regulation of social support exists between personality andmental health is correct.(4)Interaction effects analysis of regulation showed that,in general, effects of conscientiousness and neuroticism ongeneral mental health, depression and anxiety weaken graduallywith the increase of perceived social support.(5)Sex differences exist in mental health level amongcollege students, and male students hold lower mental healthlevel significant than female students. Self-Assertion leveland mental health level of sigleton are higher than those of non-sigleton, while anxiety level of sigleton is lower than thatof non-sigleton; anxiety level of undergraduates is lowersignificantly than that of school students, while mental healthlevel of them is higher significantly than that of schoolstudents; anxiety level and mental health level of highervocational and technical school students is highersignificantly than those of common and important collegesstudents; Self-Assertion level of the fourth-year collegestudents is higher significantly than the other three grades;the lower education degree the students' parents have, thelower mental health level the students have.
